What you can expect from this 14 day Southern Explorer Adventure Tour:
Enjoy game walks, tracking different species and exploring the waterways of the world renowned Okavango Swamps. You have the opportunity to meet people of different cultures and to experience African traditions. The very brave can attempt one of the world's highest bungy jumps.

Day 1: Kruger National Park, South AfricaAn early start as you leave the city of gold and make your way through the Mpumalanga province en-route to the Kruger National Park. As you enter through one of the Southern gates you begin your search for the many species of birds, mammals and reptiles that inhabit the Park. Kruger Park is home to a wide diversity of animals including Africa’s “Big Five” Your game drive takes you to the campsite, where you board an open safari vehicle and head out on an exciting night drive. Evening to be spent camping within Kruger. (Dinner) |
Day 2: Kruger National Park, South Africa
An early morning game drive takes you along some of the best game drive routes that Kruger Park has to offer. Sunrise at a waterhole offers scenes straight out of National Geographic. This day of your african overland tour, is spent game viewing, bird watching and stopping off at the various waterholes en route to your next camp. Evening to be spent relaxing around the campfire reminiscing about the day’s events. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) |
Day 3: Panoramic Route/Nyani, South AfricaYou take your final game drive in Kruger before heading up the Drakensberg Escarpment and spend the day visiting the scenic sights along the panoramic route. These sights include Gods Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes and the magnificent three rondawels at the Blyde River Canyon. From here you journey on to a Shangaan Tribal Village where a guided tour gives you an insight into the culture and traditions of the local Shangaan people. You will enjoy an exciting evening of tribal dancing, singing and a traditional African dinner. Overnight in traditional huts. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) |
Day 4: Makopane, South AfricaToday you depart the village after breakfast and head towards the town of Makopane where you overnight en-route to Botswana. (Breakfast, Dinner) |
Day 5: Nata, Botswana
This morning on your african overland tour, you cross into Botswana and continue northwards to Nata were you set up camp on the edge of Makgadikgadi Pans. Breakfast and Dinner. |
Days 6 & 7: Livingstone / Victoria Falls, ZambiaYou head to Livingstone, the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls, where you embark on a sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi River. You have a free day for many activities including white water rafting, bungee jumping, micro lighting, jet boating or a “flight of angels’’. You can explore the town or shop in the markets and visit the Falls. (Breakfast, Dinner) |
Day 8: Chobe, BotswanaAfter a free morning in Livingstone, you make the short journey to Kasane where you set up camp on the banks of the Chobe River. This afternoon there is an optional game cruise on the Chobe River. (Breakfast, Dinner) |
Day 9: Maun, BotswanaEarly this morning you head off on a game drive inside the Chobe National Park for more game viewing. After a late breakfast you depart for Maun, the getaway to the stunning Okavango Delta. (Breakfast, Dinner) |
Days 10 & 11 Okavango Delta, BotswanaThis morning you venture into the wilderness of the Delta in a 4x4. Once you reach the tributaries of the Delta, you join up with local villagers in mokoros (2 man dug out canoes). Drifting through the waterways you begin your search for the wildlife that inhabits the Delta and set up camp on one of the islands.
You do game walks tracking the animals that make the Delta their home. In the evenings you sit around the campfire and enjoy the undisturbed sights and sounds of the bush at night. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) |
Day 12: Maun, Botswana
On this day of your african overland tour, you will leave behind the tranquility and memories of the Okavango Delta. You will get to enjoy a final mokoro trip before transferring back to Maun. There is an optional game viewing flight over the Delta, which boasts superb views of the waterways and wildlife. (Breakfast, Dinner) |
Day 13: Rhino Sanctuary, BotswanaYou spend your final night camping at the Rhino Sanctuary where they are reintroducing this ancient animal back into Botswana. This is your final game viewing experience. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.) |
Day 14: Johannesburg, South AfricaLeaving early you cross into South Africa and make your way back to Johannesburg. (Breakfast) |

Mekoros (plural for mokoro) started to be used by tourists in the early 1980’s and has since then become an almost mandatory activity if one is visiting the Okavango - the 2 almost becoming synonymous.
